“Funeral Services for Mrs. Barbara Belcher Duke, 82, of Bainbridge, GA formerly of Attapulgus, GA will be held Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at The Attapulgus United Methodist Church with Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in the Attapulgus Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Cox-Ware Funeral Home. Mrs. Duke was born January 11, 1927 in Decatur County, GA to the now late Norwood R. and Lois White Belcher. She lived all of her life in Decatur County and was married to the now late John Clarke Duke Sr. She was a member of the Attapulgus United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Mildred McCarty Circle, treasurer for the United Methodist Women, was active in Sunday School and was on the Administrative Board. She was retired from the Food Services Division of the Decatur County Board of Education. Mrs. Duke loved her family, quilting, arts and crafts, reading, and bird watching. She died peacefully at Bainbridge Memorial Manor Monday, October 5, 2009 after a lengthy illness. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Duke Barrett and husband Tom of Tallahassee, FL; one son, John Clarke Duke Jr.; one sister, Mary Ann Belcher of Bainbridge, GA; one brother, Donald Belcher and wife Ann of Bainbridge, GA; two grandchildren, Tyler Duke Townsend of Tallahassee, FL, and Amber Fells of Leesburg, GA; one step granddaughter, Kimberly Barrett of Richland, TX; eight great grandchildren; and a host of very special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Duke was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter, Kathryn Jean Duke. “
