Funeral Services for Mr. Hugh M. Jones, 89, of Thomasville, GA will be held Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 3:00 PM at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Crapps officiating. Interment will follow in Hawthorne Cemetery in Grady County. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 2:00 - 3:00 PM at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Jones was born in Grady County, GA November 30, 1919 to the now late John Byron and Doris Eugenia Hall Jones. He was a U.S. Army-Air Force Veteran of WWII. After WWII he lived in Bainbridge where he worked with the C.C.'s until the 1950's when he moved to Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta, he worked as an engineer in an airplane factory. He then moved to Merritt Island, FL where he contracted with NASA to build parts for space shuttles. He built parts for the first U.S. man made object to orbit the earth and continued to build parts for every space shuttle and rocket until his retirement in 1996 when he moved back to Thomasville. While in Merrit Island he served as president for the Merritt Island Lions Club. He was a member of the Dawson St. Baptist Church in Thomasville, GA and passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Plantation Manor in Thomasville, GA. He is survived by his wife, Ann Baxley Monk Jones of Tallahassee, FL, one step daughter, Agatha Cannon of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Jeanette Housekneckt of San Diego, CA, and Joan Cole of San Antonio, TX; two step-grandchildren, Christopher and Chad Cannon both of Tallahassee, FL; nieces, Betty Bryan, Linda Housekneckt, Rayleen Mullins, Cindy Sumner, Vickie Sumner, Diane Whitworth, Gena Harkins, Melody Jones, Sharon Brandon, Donna Jones, Connie Jones, Lisa Jones, and Judy Jones; nephews, Walker Whitworth, Randy Jones, Gary Jones, Darin Jones, Joey Jones, and David Sumner; and his special friend Virginia Brock of Bainbridge, GA. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parent, his first wife, Lucille Holt Jones; five brothers, Elbert Jones, Thomas Jones, J.B. Jones, Milton Jones, and Billy Jones; and two sisters, Elaine Whitwoth, and Verna Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 1323 E. Shotwell St. Bainbridge, GA 39819.
