Mr. James C. Clay, age 92, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at his home in Cairo, Georgia. Services for Mr. Clay will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 8, 2014, at Long Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Moore will be officiating. Andy Barber, Brad Barber, Toby Miller, Mance Miller, Bill Davis, and Danny Thompson will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Cairo Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Long Branch Baptist Church. James C. Clay was born July 2, 1922 in Beachton, Georgia, to Green Monroe Clay and Essie Jordan Clay. He proudly served in the United States Army. James married Jennie Wade Clay. They were married for 68 years, before her passing in 2010. Mr. Clay was a carpenter by trade. He loved to stay busy. At 92 years of age, he mowed his yard the morning of his passing. One of his true joys in life was fishing. James Clay will be dearly missed by the family he loved so much. James C. Clay is survived by his children, Jenifer C. Miller and James (Eddie) Clay of Cairo; grandchildren, Falisha Gay Harrell, Darlene E. Barber, Mance L. Miller and wife, Denise, Darby Kaye Haddock, Toby Lee Miller and wife , Regina, and Jerome (Rod) Williams and wife, Jennifer; 13 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, Kolleen Barber, Hayden Hawthorne, and Calvin Hawthorn; and a host of additional family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jennie Wade Clay; daughter, Cecilia Clay Williams; and granddaughter, Alisha Clinton.
