Funeral Services for Mrs. Juanita Boyett Humphrey, 87, of Climax, GA will be held Friday, January 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Climax Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Weaver, Pastor Johnny Moore, Pastor John Tuvell, and Rev. Steve Poppell officiating. Private Interment with Family will follow at Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church. Visitation will be held immediately following the service at the church. Mrs. Humphrey was born November 1, 1922 in Decatur County, GA to James Clarence and Mettie Moore Boyett. She lived most of her life in Decatur County, GA; but also resided in Bainbridge and Cairo, GA; Miami, FL; and Atlanta, GA during her lifetime. She also spent much time in Panama City Beach, FL, her second home. She was educated in the Decatur County school system and graduated from Climax High School in Climax, GA in 1941. She was married to John T. Humphrey in 1952. She was a member of Moore's Chapel Second Advent Christian Church in Decatur County, GA. Mrs. Humphrey worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company in Bainbridge and Atlanta, GA as an operator, supervisor, and instructor. She retired from Southern Bell with over 35 years of service. Following her retirement, she worked with the Decatur County Court System as Bailiff and served as the Bell District Election Poll Director in Decatur County for many years. She also volunteered at Memorial Hospital and Manor in Bainbridge, GA as Gray Lady for many years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Association of America, a lifetime member of the Ladies' VFW Auxiliary, and the Rosey Red Ladies Society. She was an avid volunteer for the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Red Cross. She also served on many committees at Top of the Gulf Condominiums in Panama City Beach, FL. Her family and friends loved and admired her for her compassion, kindness, generosity, dedication, organization, and leadership. She was blessed with many dear family members and friends. Mrs. Humphrey enjoyed her church; her work; travel; spending time at Mexico Beach and Panama City Beach; attending sports events, especially basketball; attending concerts and plays; gardening and designing floral arrangements; decorating; and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Clarence and Mettie Moore Boyett; her husband, John T. Humphrey; a sister, Allee Boyett Duncan; a brother, William Franklin Boyett; and a niece, Frankie Boyett Bowen. Mrs. Humphrey is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Dr. James P. and Jean T. Humphrey of Cairo, GA; grandson, Jared B. Humphrey, of Cairo, GA; sister, Florence Boyett Gillespie, of Attapulgus, GA; sister-in-law, Christine B. Boyett, of Bainbridge, GA; foster brother, James (Pete) Dezerne, of Tallahassee, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, and their spouses, including: Robbie D. and James Brock of Bainbridge, Thelma G. and Charles Harrell of Bainbridge, Glenda G. and Ronald Kinsey of Attapulgus, and Patrick and Sue W. Gillespie of Attapulgus; and numerous cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews; and a host of nieces, nephews, and their spouses and families by marriage who she considered her blood relatives. She loved all of her immediate and extended family and her dear friends very much, and they all loved her.
